Mike Savage is an American artist who splits his time between Portland, Oregon and Santa Monica, California. His recent body of work is inspired by the sparse yet powerful compositions of nautical flags and his own photographs of architectural shadows. By utilizing the most proletariat of all materials, such as pencil, tape, crayon and paint, Savage’s paintings on paper are a means of making a meditative diary of analogue recordings with the immediacy of his own hand.
In 1992 Savage earned a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and studied architecture at Northeastern University, Boston then In 2012 completed Columbia University's acclaimed 4 week painting intensive at Reid Hall in Paris, France
He has been working in his Santa Monica Airport studio since July 2023
